Web design examples

This site shows lots of different of Web design examples. It was created by people trying to lure print graphic designers to the Web. Each page uses the exact same content but has different design layouts.

You can click on the links to the right to view different layouts. It has some bad ideas but a lot of good ones as well.

This Web site reminds me of a conversation that I had with my roommate, who is the president of a student organization on campus, about her group's Web site. She had been having communication problems with her group's Web person because the Web person was focused on making the Web site look cool, but my roommate didn't think users could follow it, and I think a lot of designs on CSS Garden epitomize that issue. Many of them are gorgeous, but a Web site is not ultimately a piece of art -- it's a communication tool that relies on user activity to get its entire message across, and if a user can't follow its navigation, the Web site isn't successful, no matter how cool it looks.
